CNN Reports Derek Jeter Hit His 3,000th Homer

derek jeter 3000 hit home run hr new york yankees cnn
No, that is not a typo. Derek Jeter got his 3,000th HIT earlier today and it happened to be a home run but CNN delivered a video report with a caption that Jeter hit his 3,000th HOMER.

Oh yeah, and then there was ESPN saying Derek Jeter got his 1st career hit when he was 10-years-old and has been playing for 25 years. Even in a 25 season career 3,000 homers is pretty impressive. Dude averaged 120 dingers per year!

Sunday Night Baseball Drinking Game - Yankees vs. Cubs Edition

bobby valentine sunday night baseball new york yankees chicago cubs espn drinking game usa
Bobby Valentine is quickly climbing his way up the "most annoying announcer list" so here is our Sunday Night Baseball Drinking Game to get you through the night. The "drink" rules will stay the same each week but the "chug" rule will change depending on who's playing.

Drink every time:

ESPN uses the behind the plate camera view
They use K-Zone during an at-bat (one drink per batter)
Bobby Valentine says something that makes you want to mute the TV
The ump and K-Zone disagree (2 drinks)

Chug:

Whenever the announcers talk about Derek Jeter (you're gonna be fucked up by the 2nd or 3rd inning...depending on fast you metabolize alcohol - which depends on a variety of factors such as: age, gender, size, genetics - don't say we never taught you anything)

ESPN MLB Front Page Photo About Derek Jeter

derek jeter espn new york yankees mlb
This is the lead picture on ESPN's MLB page right now. Derek Jeter can't hit the ball out of the infield anymore so this isn't really surprising to me but what caught my eye was this: "while chasing a playoff slot". Is a team really "chasing a playoff slot" on May 6th? That is all.

John Krasinski and Alec Baldwin in Red Sox vs. Yankees New Era Commercial

The Red Sox might be 0-6 but their home opener is today and it's against the Yankees. New Era has a brand new marketing campaign of commercials featuring die-hard fans John Krasinski (Red Sox) and Alec Baldwin (Yankees) talking trash to each other. NBC 12 says:
New Era unveiled its 2011 Major League Baseball (MLB) marketing campaign celebrating epic rivalries and team pride. The campaign features 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin and The Office's John Krasinski in a series of commercials where they demonstrate the true meaning of team rivalry.

In the TV spots, which will begin airing on April 8th, Alec Baldwin, an avid Yankees fan, and John Krasinski, a passionate Red Sox fan, exchange some friendly back and forth trash-talking about each other's teams.

"We've created a campaign that celebrates the most talked about aspect of Major League Baseball – the rivalry," said Christopher H. Koch, CEO. "And we've taken one of baseball's most recognizable rivalries and used it as a catalyst to inspire fans everywhere."

The tagline, "Rivals Are Forever," is part of the TV, social media, in-stadium and retail campaign promoting the brand's Authentic Collection (AC) on-field cap. In-store, ads pay homage to other great baseball rivalries including the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, and Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals.

The series spots will run during Yankees/Red Sox games throughout the season on ESPN, FOX, YES Network and NESN. Cable channels including Comedy Central, Adult Swim, Spike, FX, SNY and others will also participate.
Well this wouldn't be a successful marketing campaign without Adult Swim participating. The commercial is pretty awesome though and I can't wait for more. "Fire doesn't have a rivalry with kindling." Classic.

Yankees, Mariano Rivera Agree To 2-Year Deal

mariano rivera new york yankees closer baseball mlb contract 30 million trevor hoffmanMariano spits on the ball during the 2009 playoffs

The Yankees and 41-year-old closer Mariano Rivera agreed Thursday to a 2-year contract worth $30 million. Mariano has played his entire career with the Yankees and everyone expected them to re-sign him. Mariano, or "Mo" as idiotic Yankees fans call him, has 559 career saves, the second most in MLB history, behind Trevor Hoffman (or as my roommate likes to call him - Hoffy-poo). The 2nd most saves in MLB history is 2nd on the list of "greatest things Mariano Rivera has done". The first, this commercial...

This contract matches the yearly salary Mariano signed three years ago with the Yankees (3 years, $45 million). The Yankees still have to re-sign Derek Jeter and then are expected to sign Cliff Lee.

AJ Burnett Left Out Of Yankee's Postseason Rotation

Let's all LOL at BJ Burnett. Burnett sucked so bad this year he has been left out of the Yankees rotation in the upcoming series against the Twins. CC Fatthia will start Game 1, Andy Pettitte Game 2 and Phil Hughes Game 3. Giradi didnt announce a Game 4 starter but it is expected CC will start on short days rest. Because of the days off, Pettitte would be ready to pitch on normal rest if there is a Game 5.

Burnett has mostly been disappointing for the Yanks. He is in his second year of a 5 year 82million dollar deal. This year Burnett has gone 10-15 with a 5.26 ERA.

The Twins plan on starting ace Francisco Liriano Game 1; Carl Pavano in Game 2; Brian Duensing in Game 3; and Nick Blackburn in Game 4.

Kevin Youkilis Out For the Season

If there was a World Series for just the disabled list, you'd be quite dumb to bet against the Red Sox. Yooooooooooooooooouk will join the walking wounded after being ruled out for the rest of the season today to under go surgery on his right thumb. He will join Pedroia, Mike Cameron, and Jason Varitek on the DL, but unfortunately just missed spending time with Beckett, Martinez, Buchholz and Ellsbury. Mike Lowell will pick up some time on 1B, also having Martinez play there and Kevin Cash behind the plate.

This is probably a good move for the Sox because it seems this season is quickly getting our of their reach. With the Yankees and Rays both playing great baseball, planning for next season might not be a terrible idea.

A-Rod (finally) Hits Home Run Number 600

A-Hole had gone 46 at bats between hitting 599 and 600 and many people were beginning to get on the hitter for such a bad slump. A-Hole hit number 600 on a 2-0 count against Shaun Marcum (fuck I have him on fantasy) to deep center. It was a 2 run shot with Jeter on first (at least I got him on fantasy). A-Hole is the youngest player to join the 600 club, joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr. and Sammy Sosa.

Yankees Trade For Lance Berkman

new york Yankees Trade Lance Berkman houston astros

new york Yankees Trade Lance Berkman houston astros

It is being reported that the New York Yankees have acquired 1B Lance Berkman from the Houston Astros. The Yankees paying for big name players? Shocking. Berkman has ten and five rights (been in the league 10 years and with the same team the last 5) which means he can veto any trade. Apparently he approved the deal but still has 24 hours to make a final decision which means nothing will be final until tomorrow. The Yankees were considered the front-runners to land Adam Dunn but it appears the Nationals asking price was too high for them.

Berkman is in the middle of a down year, hitting .245 with 13 HR but can still provide a lot of power when needed. His fantasy value goes way up with the move to the 2nd friendliest HR park in MLB and a WAY better lineup. He will play mostly DH for the Yankees and has a club option for $15 million next season (with a $2 million buyout). Annnnddd the rich get richer.
