On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Go Tribal

A fresh, new trend has debuted to a whisper but has taken over urban fashion. As tribal and ethnic prints exploded onto the runways, urban designer’s interpreted this trend in a different way. They used colorful West African fabrics, in modern silhouettes. I love this! The colors are beautiful and perfect for mixing with other bold prints.  Here’s how:

This patchwork dress has a lot going on with the swatches of hounds tooth and the kente. But it’s cool! So pick one color or tone -let’s call it our theme- to pick up in the rest of your outfit. The black and tan in the leopard belt picks up on the chartreuse and black in the dress. The tan is in the belts supported by the shoes, and the mustard purse helps the lime really pop. Be sure your contrasting belt is small. There has to be a line when combining prints this way.

It's Spring, but it’s not quite warm. But you can still rock a cute shorter skirt. The bold print of the fabric is backed by a pinstriped grid. Mimic and exaggerate these lines with a bold turtleneck. The camel blazer is a perfect outerwear layer now that your heavy coat is in storage. It will also act as buffer, and break up all the business. The black boots anchor the entire look and the pink purse is a perfect touch. Give bold combinations a try!

On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Color Trend- Red and Blue

I love to eat! So imagine how excited I was to discover private chef to the stars Sasha Pearl-Raver was going be in the magazine this month. She’s an amazing beauty and makes beautiful plates for some of the coolest and wealthiest people in Los Angeles. The Dalia MacPhee dresses she wears in the pictorial are stunning, and it was really cool to see the short teal frock paired with hot red booties.

I love blue and red together, but it’s a tricky color combination. While there’s nothing wrong with patriotism very easily, one could look like the American flag on the Fourth of July. To avoid looking like our beloved star spangled banner, here are a few ideas to keep your outfit chic, and not band geek.

1. Use colors to add depth and freshness to an otherwise two color outfit. Here, I’ve added a white cropped sweater with multicolored hearts, and added a mint colored belt.

2. Add neutrals to break up the primary color frenzy. In this outfit, the wide leg trouser khaki trouser and tan suede clutch make the blending of red and blue really sophisticated.

3. Mix prints to create texture. In this last outfit, I’ve paired   a printed tunic with turquoise jewelry and an ethnic, beaded clutch. These elements add complexity to a simple tunic and jeans.

On Trend with REGARD Magazine .... Valentine Style

Valentine’s Day is upon us, and whether you’re a hopeless romantic and have planned a special date for your sweetheart, or you’re the anti-cupid and just spending the V-day weekend with your gal pals, let your outfit reflect your mood or activity. 

For a sultry night out for your first or fifth date, a leopard print wrap dress, some cool accessories, like a burgundy suede platforms, and a nude patent leather clutch will definitely give the romance a bit of style.

If you really want to be festive and celebrate the day of lovers, a red and pink ensemble will be pretty and sweet. T-strap flats keep it playful and light, while the red blazer and heart t-shirt make it a Valentine’s Day special. Heart earrings are a lovely finish.

For a casual lunch with the girls, try mixing an abstract floral printed, boyfriend style blazer with a bold pink stripe top. Add some slouchy, distressed ankle cuff jeans, and some sky high pink strappy sandals (try them with socks!). The oversized hot pink clutch is the color of love and adds a touch of femininity to a more relaxed outfit.

The Super Bowl is here, the ultimate man holiday. Just because you have to head out to the sports bar or man bar-b-que, there’s no reason why you can’t still look cute. So here are a few tips to help you combine football and fashion.

• 1. Keep it comfortable! Don’t get too dressed up. Mix and match casual   and sporty pieces with a skirt or some heels.
• 2. Accessorize! If your outfit is relatively simple and sporty, add some feminine details.
• 3. Pick a team! This will be your theme and you can easily build your outfit around it.

The trench coat is a great classic and has been a fashion staple for nearly a century. They are not only an ideal outerwear option for transitioning weather but they are back with a vengeance on all the hottest winter/spring runways.  Here are a few important guidelines to explore when choosing an option that suites you best.

Your overcoat is one of the more important pieces you will invest in. Quality is vital as you will wear it for years to come.  Choose a classic cut with shoulders that fit well, and are structured but not padded.  Look for classic lines and finished seams.

A trench can be a great option for a professional environment in rain, but very traditional looking versions can not only look severe but can also run the risk of making you look like Inspector Gadget.  Instead, be sure your trench is tailored for a lady. While keeping with the idea of classic lines for inspiration, try a fun print, slightly different cut or interesting color. Have Fun!

Weekend Trend with Regard Magazine .... from work to Friday Night

So, we love the idea of vamping up a perfectly coiffed work dress for your Friday night excursions after hours. That perfect, great for work, dress only needs a few accessories to take it from office appropriate to sexy siren.

Here are the rules of Engagement:

Start by changing your shoes. If your dress is ultra conservative take some liberty with your shoe and have some fun.

Next, add a playful accessory like an unusual bug shaped earring, or jaguar watch bangle. They won't only make your outfit interesting, but may also make for interesting conversation starters. Work the room!

Finally, keep the pieces you need to transform your work dress to four or five pieces max. If the dress or work outfit you have in mind can’t be embellished with a few key items, then try another dress.
